The type WC-20 'gray' consists of 98% tungsten and 2% cerium oxide and is completely radiation-free. WC-20 is a standard electrode for all DC applications. The welding current during AC welding should not exceed about 100 A; pure tungsten electrodes WP-00 'green' are more suitable at higher currents.

By addition of cerium behavior similar to thoriated electrodes. Excellent very good ignition - also the re-ignition of warm electrodes - with a long service life and good current-carrying capacity. Cerium is much less polluting than thorium and not radioactive.
